Lake Malawi

A few weeks ago I went to a network meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi. The meeting was enjoyable because I was able to see old friends and meet with other young doctors who are doing similar work in Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Malawi, and Burkina Faso. After the meeting I went with some friends to Lake Malawi. The drive was long and the roads were bad, but once we arrived to the shore it was beautiful. We stayed at a lovely little guest house on the beach with bougainvillea growing in the sand and a bar on stilts that overlooked a beach volleyball court. In the afternoon I went scuba diving with Dan Dewey, whom I had worked with in Uganda. Everything was very relaxed and I was able to finally see the Lake Malawi cichlids that I had read so much about as a kid. In the late afternoon we played volleyball on the beach and watched the sunset.
